We know that this has been one damn dreary year, and this cold winter weather sure isn’t helping our spirits (shoutout to all the Midwest folks). We also know that travel definitely isn’t a priority right now… but we can always dream about the beach, right? Anyway… if you do find yourself needing an escape from the cold weather and reality in the future, here are some of our favorite beaches to warm up at (without going abroad).
Siesta Key, Florida
Looking to go East? Why not checkout Siesta Key. Start the morning with some beach yoga, then grab a daiquiri for the warm afternoon. Or, if it’s more your style, you can hit the historic Spanish Point -- you’ll find a great garden, an historic aqueduct, and a mass of old shells. Before you hit the one last time, be sure to check out the canopy walkway at the Myakka River State Park!
South Padre Island, Texas
If you’re looking for something closer to the middle of the country, then maybe South Padre is your best bet. Famous for its warm, calm waters, the South of Texas is an excellent escape from frigid winter weather. The sandcastle capital of the world, your family is setup for the next great beach adventure -- the year round temperature is always just right! Before you leave, be sure to catch some of the great wildlife education tours that are great for the whole family.
Crystal Cove, California
Crystal Cove is a cozy and secluded beach in southern California which has something for everybody in the family. We love the local vibe here. When you first get in, you will see all of the neat public art scattered about the city. The State Park (pictured) has all sorts of activities for kids, including a collection of scavenger hunts! If you’re hoping for an extended stay, their historic district has a number of cute beach cottages that make for great beach season memories!
