Our Beach Picnic Pro-Tips

Hey y’all! I think we can agree that everyone is looking forward to a very vaccinated Summer 2021, and what better way to do that than by perfecting your picnic game? I’ve compiled a list of ideas and resources to make your leisurely summer afternoon amazing for both you and the environment.

Ok so first of all, let’s talk about materials. You don’t need anything special, just a big blanket (or beach towel) and some cushions to sit on. I recommend heading to your nearest thrift store to pick up some old pillows, put them under the blanket, that way you have a comfortable seat without distressing any of your own bedding. Also, don’t forget an umbrella for some extra shade! If you’re planning to do some sunbathing, check out our blog post on reef safe sunscreen. If you live in a place with not-so-friendly little insects, this bug balm is eco-friendly and organic!

What’s a picnic without snacks? These are my favorite tasty, and practical, treats for a day outside.

Frozen fruit! While it’s not quite as good as ice cream, it will help keep your cooler cold without taking up negative space, and it makes perfect ice cubes for your wine coolers. This trick also works for frozen water bottles. Keep your food cold on the way to the beach and have a nice cold water bottle to drink by the time you get there.

Mason jar salads. This one is so easy and especially beach picnic friendly. Just place your favorite salad dressing at the bottom of a mason jar with your greens and enhancements on top. When you’re ready to eat, just shake the mason jar up and you have a perfectly-not-soggy salad! And you don’t have to worry about

tossing a salad, bringing extra utensils to do so, and potentially getting sand in your food!

Charcuterie...or as we like to call it SHARKuterie. Who doesn’t love a delicious assortment of meat, cheese, fruit, veggies, crackers, olives, and more? Remember, it doesn’t need to be pretty, just tasty!

Aaand...here are some bonus pro-tips:

  1. Check out this sustainable cutlery

  2. Bring a bluetooth speaker!

  3. Bring something to do. Frisbee, hacky sack, chess, a good book, a coloring book- whatever makes you happy.

  4. Bring an extra trash bag

  5. Don’t forking litter!

  6. Don’t fork with the wildlife

I hope this gave you the infinite wisdom needed to make Summer 2021 your best one yet! From all of us here at Shark OFF, let’s get this party STARTED!
